While fans search for the best holiday shopping deals online today, this week’s Fanalyst Rankings identifies the offseason contract signings that look like good deals for the best teams in the NBA after the 1st month of the season.
There are two sides to every NBA Power Ranking: the Fanalytical and the Fanatical. As a Miami HEAT blogger living on the east coast, MHI plays the fanalyst for the Eastern Conference. As a Denver Nuggets fan living west of the Mississippi River, Mrs. NBA plays the fan and provides the slander. The roles are reversed for the Western Conference.
1. Miami HEAT (10-3, prev. rank: 1)
MHI: HEAT fans had big expectations for Ray Allen this season but very few, if any, expected 2 game-winning shots in the first month of the season. Arturo Galletti from wagesofwins.com projected Allen to produce 0.173 wins per 48 minutes (WP48) this season but he’s exceeded expectations with 0.259 WP48, according to TheNBAGeek.com. If the HEAT defense continues to struggle, they may need another big shot from Allen to go 2-0 at home this week against the Spurs and Nets.
Mrs. NBA: Yeah, Yeah, Miami is awesome blah blah blah. A part of me wanted the Cavs to beat Miami so I could tease you all week. Don't worry, I'll pretend I'm you and say "#BitchassnessNeverProspers Tammeh"
2. New York Knicks (9-3, prev. rank: 2)
MHI: His headband may be ridiculous, but Jason Kidd’s production is nothing to laugh at. He was projected to produce 0.220 WP48 but he’s almost doubled that with 0.418 WP48 in the first four weeks of the season. The Knicks will need Kidd to play well against Joe Johnson in Brooklyn and Monta Ellis in Milwaukee if they want to go 4-0 next week and regain the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Mrs. NBA: YAWN! Holla at me when NY doesn't make it look as if Chandler Parsons should be an All-Star.
3. Brooklyn Nets (8-4, prev. rank: 4)
MHI: Despite signing former all-stars to big contracts in the offseason for their starting lineup, Reggie Evans has been the best offseason addition for the Nets so far. He was only projected to produce 0.179 WP48 but he leads the team in Wins Produced after 4 weeks and has produced 0.274 WP48. They’ll need Evans to bang out a 2-2 record this week against Tyson Chandler, Kevin Garnett, Big Baby and Udonis Haslem.
Mrs. NBA: What's that sound you hear? That's the sound of MHI backpedaling on his off-season predictions in which he stated Brooklyn Nets wouldn't be shit.
4. Atlanta Hawks (8-4, prev. rank: 6)
MHI: New Hawk Kyle Korver leads the team in Wins Produced after the 1st month but his actual production is only a little above his projection. DeShawn Stevenson is the offseason addition exceeding expectations. Stevenson was projected to have no impact with 0.000 WP48 but is producing 0.113 WP48 so far. The Hawks needed a last-second three from Korver to pull out a win against the Wizards to go 4-0 last week, but that shouldn’t be the case to go 2-0 against the Bobcats and Cavs this week.
Mrs. NBA: Hawks still ain't shit. The only things that matter in ATL are 'The Housewives of Atlanta"... That's it.
5. Chicago Bulls (6-6, prev. rank: 5)
MHI: The new Bench Mob the Bulls signed in the offseason hasn’t been impressive, but Marco Belinelli has slightly outperformed his projection of 0.041 WP48 with 0.074 WP48. The Bulls could use Bellinelli’s three-point shooting against 2 top 10 defenses to go 3-0 this week at home vs. Bucks, Mavs and 76ers.
Mrs. NBA: I can't take the Chicago Bulls or Joakim Noah seriously until they he does something with that ridiculous hair and admits his fetish for trannies.
6. Milwaukee Bucks (6-5, prev. rank: 3)
MHI: Samuel Dalembert leads the Bucks' herd of 7-footers with 0.258 WP48. He was only projected to produce 0.171 WP48 this season. The big men weren’t enough to offset a horrible performance from Monta Ellis as they went 0-3 last week. If Ellis can be efficient, then Dalembert can help the Bucks go 2-2 next week with @Bulls, Knicks, @T’Wolves, Celtics on the schedule.
Mrs. NBA: FEAR THE VENISON! PFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTT!
7. Boston Celtics (8-6, prev. rank: 7)
MHI: Jason Terry isn’t playing as well as Ray Allen but he’s been the most productive new addition to the Celtics starting lineup this season. Terry was projected to provide slightly below average production with 0.089 WP48 but has exceeded that with 0.149 WP48. Terry should be able to hold his own against Joe Johnson, Wes Matthews and Monta Ellis this week for the Celtics to go 2-1.
Mrs. NBA: Boston Celtics are more haggard than Coach Karl's voice. The crew looks messy and it took them an OT to defeat the Orlando Magic? Seriously. Celtics fans are more delusional than the team hanging onto Rondo's assist streak as if that's going to make the Celtics NOT suck.
8. Philadelphia 76ers (8-6, prev. rank: 8)
MHI: Andrew Bynum was supposed to be the Sixers’ big deal this offseason, but the most productive player in his absence has been Jason Richardson. J-Rich was only projected to produce 0.073 WP48 but he’s leading the 76ers in wins produced with 0.250 WP48. Richardson will have his hands full next week trying to keep the Sixers above 0.500 with Mavs, @Bobcats and @Bulls on the schedule. They should go 1-2. An 0-3 record this week opens the door for the Bobcats to make their 1st appearance in the Fanalyst Rankings next week.
