Dwyane Wade: Where Will He Play If There's a Lockout?
Where will Dwyane Wade's love of the game take him to play during the NBA lockout?
Last week, I published an article with three reasons why Wade wouldn't play in China during the lockout. The next day, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press published the following quote from Wade, “I’m going to play basketball this year. I don’t know where, but I love the game so much that I will play it. And we will figure that out.”
Of course, this doesn't mean that Wade will play in China. I still think there are two big reasons for Wade to stay in America during the lockout: his sons Zion and Zaire.
So if Wade isn't likely to play overseas, then where will he play?
Why can't he play exhibition games in America against NBA superstars like Kobe Bryant and Amare Stoudemire?
Nike sponsors streetball teams in summer leagues and all around the country. Why would they let star players like Wade and LeBron James, that have already been signed to multi-million dollar endorsement deals, workout in private when they could market them playing basketball in the public?
Why not have exhibition games between all the sneaker brands? Nike vs. Jordan Brand, Adidas vs. Reebok, Converse vs. And1, Under Armour vs. Li Ning.
If NBA stars going overseas is a Phantom Menace, then episode 2 of the NBA lockout could be the Rise of the Sneaker Wars.
