Which Colleges Produced the Most Heat?

Which NCAA schools provided the most productive HEAT players?

Earlier this week, I answered the question, "Which colleges produced the most wins in the NBA?" at the Wages of Wins Journal and Bleacher Report. Now, I'd like to answer that question for Miami.

This article will use Wins Produced, a statistical model created by sports economist David Berri from the Wages of Wins Journal, to measure how much a player's box score statistics contributed to his team's efficiency differential and wins. The stats used in this article are powered by NerdNumbers. More information on Wins Produced can be found at the following links:

Since Dwyane Wade (110.2 wins produced) and Alonzo Mourning (74.8 wins produced) are the two most productive players in Heat history, Marquette University and Georgetown University top the list. Rony Seikaly, Udonis Haslem and Eddie Jones' alma maters round out the Top Five Schools in Wins Produced for the Miami HEAT.
  1. Marquette University: 110.9 wins produced
  2. Georgetown University: 74.8 wins produced
  3. Syracuse University: 60.6 wins produced
  4. University of Florida: 57.2 wins produced
  5. Temple University: 49.4 wins produced

The schools listed below provided the most players for the HEAT franchise:

Syracuse University: 7 players produced 60.6 wins
Most productive alum: Rony Seikaly with 42.0 wins produced
Least productive alum: LeRon Ellis with -0.5 wins produced

University of Kentucky: 7 players produced 13.2 wins
Most productive alum: Jamal Mashburn with 10.8 wins produced
Least productive alum: Antoine Walker with -2.0 wins produced

Georgia Tech: 5 players produced 16.7 wins
Most productive alum: Chris Bosh with 7.9 wins produced
Least productive alum: Craig Neal with -0.5 wins produced

University of Florida: 4 players produced 57.2 wins
Most productive alum: Udonis Haslem with 42.6 wins produced
Least productive alum: Matt Walsh with 0.0 wins produced

University of Michigan: 4 players produced 26.8 wins
Most productive alum: Glen Rice with 28.1 wins produced
Least productive alum: Terry Mills with -1.0 wins produced

DePaul University: 4 players produced 23.6 wins
Most productive alum: Quentin Richardson with 8.7 wins produced
Least productive alum: Tyrone Corbin with 0.6 wins produced

University of Kansas: 4 players produced 7.9 wins
Most productive alum: Mario Chalmers with 8.4 wins produced
Least productive alum: Wayne Simien with -0.9 wins produced

Now that we know which colleges produced the most wins for the HEAT, the next question is whether the HEAT overpaid for the college education of those players. That issue will be addressed in a future article.
