Off the Index: Denver Nuggets Defense Is Solid but Coach of the Year Is Fools' Gold

I've been preoccupied the last two days by an issue raised during a lengthy email discussion on the Wages of Wins Network. The topic? The Denver Nuggets' defense.

Why was a Miami Heat blogger preoccupied with the Nuggets defense?

The Heat are the only team with an offense and defense ranked in the top five of the NBA, but that defense has declined with Mike Bibby. Since trading for Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets have ranked 7th in offense and 1st in defense.

I started researching Bibby's impact on the Heat's defense and became preoccupied with the impact of the Melo trade on the Nuggets' defense.

The result of my preoccupation? A new slideshow on Bleacher Report about the Nuggets defense.

Bleacher Report doesn't support embedded Google Docs, so here's the spreadsheet used to analyze the impact the Nuggets' defensive improvements have had on the team's Wins Produced:

Check out the slideshow if you're interested in how the Nuggets defense was affected by the Melo trade. A similar analysis will be coming for Mike Bibby's impact on the Heat defense.
